Guide to Fully Funded Chevening Master’s for Pakistani Students
Chevening is the UK’s public sector, international scholarship and fellowship program, which is funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Since its existence in 1983, has evolved into a highly competitive and prestigious globally recognized award with 55000 successful Alumni. According to the Annual report, 1650 scholars are supported annually by these awards. Chevening finances Full-Time taught a one-year Master’s Degree program in the UK which commences in September each year.
Program Insights
Stipend
The Stipend is a specific value a candidate receives in his UK bank account which covers all monthly living allowances and maintenance costs. Right from the beginning of the candidate’s tenure in the UK, Chevening covers all the costs of the candidate’s Accommodation, Meals, personal expenditures, Phone bills, and traveling costs. Arrival allowance would be sent to candidates in their local cash cards of their home country before their arrival in the UK, which can be used for initial Police registrations and commute costs from the Airport to the university. Students need to register for a UK bank account with the help of university administration as soon as they reach the UK, which is later mandatory for each month’s stipend payment.
Health Insurance
All the students are entitled to National Health Services NHS while at their stay in the UK. Foreign Commonwealth and Development pay surcharge on behalf of all students. Although the NHS is a public health care system, but it is still suggested if you privately register for medical insurance services which can provide you urgent medical care and assistance before the NHS.
Accommodation
Finding Accommodation is the sole responsibility of a student and Chevening would not assist the student in finding one’s accommodation. It is suggested to apply for university accommodation, but as their deadlines pass before your final offer, one may need to find private accommodation. University administration can help you find your private accommodation. The student should not acknowledge the agreement nor send any cost before visiting the accommodation. The University’s student union specialist can visit the accommodation on your behalf. Before traveling to UK you should have enough to manage the initial expenses of living elsewhere if your residence is not available in the initial days.
Eligibility Requirements
1. Citizen of a Chevening-eligible country (Pakistan is one among them)
2. Intends to return to home country for a minimum of 2 years.
3. Holds UK equivalent 2:1 Undergraduate Degree
4. Have 2 years of work experience equal to 2800Hours (Full-Time, Internships, Contract period)
5. Received at least one Unconditional Master’s offer before July 13, 2024.
Ineligibility
1. Holds British Citizenship or dual citizenship status with the UK.
2. Holds Refugee Status inside UK.
3. Former Employee or Employee’s relative of his majesty’s government serving in any ministry.
4. Former Employee or Employee’s relative of Chevening
5. Who has already done a Master’s from the UK on any UK-based scholarship.
Scholarship Process & Timelines
1. Applications Open on September 02, 2023.
Applications gets open for Pakistani Students in September. Finalize the programs of studies and desired universities according to Chevening Course Requirements before the opening.
2. Applications Closed on November 02, 2023.
At least three Master’s programs must be applied before the Application deadline. Application completed in all aspects along with details of your applied study programs must be submitted by the deadline.
3. Candidates Shortlisting for Interviews from Early to Mid-February 2024.
Applications are shortlisted for interview keeping in consideration the eligibility criteria and competitive parameters of candidates.
4. Reference and Educational Documents Deadlines March2024 - April2024.
Reference and Educational Documents are needed to be uploaded for successful application procedures.
5. Interview Takes Place March2024- April2024.
Interviews takes place for all the successful candidates who were shortlisted in the process.
6. Results Announcement June 2024.
Scholarship Result is announced on the condition of candidates in the possession of at least one Unconditional admission offer from a UK university.
7. One Unconditional Offer Receival Deadline of July 2024.
During the above-mentioned period if candidates haven’t received any unconditional offer yet need to meet this deadline for updating Chevening about their offer’s status.
8. Commencement of Studies September 2024 – October 2024.
All the successful candidates begin their Chevening journey in universities for a period of one year.
9. Eligible Courses
- Must be a Full-Time study program
- Must be a Taught program for a span of 12 months, Research programs are not eligible.
- Must start in Autumn Term in the UK (September/October)
- Must be a Master’s program which is usually for the span of one year in the UK.
